Vaders Wigwams is an American rock band from New York City. The band was formed in 1981 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Mark Edwards, bassist John Strother, and drummer Jimmy Holler. The band’s name is a reference to the wigwams that were used by Native Americans.
Vaders Wigwams released their self-titled debut album in 1983 on the independent label Homestead Records. The album was produced by Bill Laswell, who also produced albums for Bad Brains, Material, and Public Enemy. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Vaders Wigwams as one of the leading underground rock bands of the 1980s.
The band’s sound is a mix of punk, rock, and psychedelia. Edwards’ lyrics are often political and social commentary. The band has been compared to other 1980s underground rock bands such as Black Flag, Bad Brains, and Sonic Youth.
Vaders Wigwams released three more studio albums in the 1980s: “The Wild and Wooly” (1984), “The Beast in Me” (1986), and “The World’s on Fire” (1988). The band also released a live album, “Live in Tokyo” (1987).
Vaders Wigwams broke up in 1989, but they reformed in 1994. The band has released two studio albums since their reformation: “The New World Order” (2003) and “Peace, Love, and Hate” (2011).
Vaders Wigwams is still an active band, and they continue to tour and record. The band is considered to be one of the most influential bands in the history of underground rock music.
